Diadem
Golden card-stock diadem, tempera on paper, brass display, collage on paper, plexiglas sheet and case
31 x 31 x 31 cm
Private collection, Rome
A brass stand and a small plexiglas sheet serve as a support for a diadem of laurel leaves made of golden cardstock. A golden sheet on the front is held in the diadem to evoke the shapeless semblances of an ancient, time-worn mask. The assemblage is placed on a reproduction in a yellow tone – torn and applied so that it is staggered on a blank sheet of drawing paper – reproducing a partial view of the exhibition space of the Genoese gallery Locus Solus, where the work was shown for the first time.
The same theme was also formulated in an earlier variant, made in 1989-90 (GPO-0670).
