Sotto le stelle, 1985-87

Five medal holders in gilded wood – with blue velvet inside studded with gilded hooks – are each associated with a tool required for the installation of the work itself. In the first medal holder, an unrolled measuring tape stands out against the night-time "sky" in the manner of a flash of lightning, protruding from the medal holder; the second one holds a plastic bag filled to the brim with gilded nails; the third one, which is empty, is topped by a level tool; the fourth one contains a hammer in an oblique position; lastly, the fifth one contains a spool of nylon thread placed on the lower edge. Each of the five moments is integrated with a nebula of gilded nails that expands upwards starting from the two nails that fasten the medal holder to the wall.
The title establishes a visual paradox between reality and imagination, recalling the starry sky by way of the constellation of gilded hooks and nails.
The work is part of a series of thirteen variants, made between 1985 and 2025, which are distinguished by the presence of one or more medal holders, their dimensions, and, above all, the intervention that is associated with them (GPO-0556, GPO-0563, GPO-0594, GPO-0595, GPO-0606, GPO-0615, GPO-0632, GPO-0717, GPO-0718, GPO-0891, GPO-1096, GPO-1099, GPO-1182).
