Pencil drawing in plexiglas case, pencil on wall

Plexiglas case 31 x 31 cm, overall dimensions variable

Private collection

Depending on the exhibition, the work can be installed in three different formats – small, medium, and large – documented by the artist in three distinct projects.

2006, New York, Yvon Lambert Gallery: the work was arranged on a very wide wall, with a proliferation of seven drawn squares occupying the entire surface available, generating a considerable dynamic impact with respect to the drawing in the case.
2012, Brescia, Galleria Massimo Minini: the work was displayed in its small-scale format (overall dimensions 110 x 110 cm), with three squares drawn on the wall.
2013, Bologna, Galleria Astuni: the work was displayed in its medium-scale format, with five squares drawn on the wall.

Beginning from the cut-out square at the centre of the drawing inside the plexiglas case, which allows the viewer to catch sight of the wall, the square module acts as the generating nucleus of a progression of squares outlined on the wall and progressively turning 45 degrees.
The spiralling pinwheeal seems to escape the hand that tries to stop the development of the drawing, which instead continues to multiply and amplify the initial situation (hence the title
Status quo).
