• 2023, Rome, Accademia Nazionale di San Luca: the flag was raised up on the balcony, at the centre of the facade of the building
At the centre of the flag is a golden female figure who disperses a multitude of frames, also golden, against the image of the sky.
Made for the solo exhibition at the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca in Rome, where it was raised up on the balcony, at the centre of the facade of the building, the flag welcomes the guests who are about to visit the Academy. The female figure portrayed at the centre of the flag announces the works exhibited “al di là” (beyond) the entrance threshold, as well as the context of the exhibition venue, intended as a place dedicated to art and artists. In metaphorical terms, the Muse presides over the “other” dimension of art, which is situated “beyond” the spatio-temporal confines of the immediate reality.
In the artist's own words: “A Universe (of frames) is suspended in the sky and escapes our gaze. It is the Muse at the centre of this flag who releases an endless number of frames buoyed by the wind, that tell us of (or announce) the endless images that flutter all around us”.1
