Inventario, 2003

The work was created for a private residence and consists of two specular interventions, made to either side of a window (referred to as A and B here). In part A, to the left of the window frame, sixteen empty frames, staggered and at irregular intervals, overlap an orderly pattern. The squares are slightly larger and outlined in pencil on the wall (three frames have been cut to remain within the limits of the drawn grid). In part B, to the right of the window, sixteen frames – identical in size to the squares drawn in part A – are arranged at regular intervals to form a pattern reproducing the one drawn on the wall in part A. The frames encompass a drawing that each time reproduces, by mirroring it, the portion of the frame that in part A is included inside the drawn square, situated in the corresponding position.
Akin to the way that in each of the two interventions the frames and the squares chase after and frame each other without finding an exact correspondence, the two parts also mirror each other without generating a tangible and univocal identity. Everything is multiplied – in the orderly and systematic terms of an “inventory”, as the title suggests – but nothing finds itself completed: the game of frames, views, and squares, some of which real, some drawn, disperses the reading of a “painting” as if in a puzzle.
