Photographic reproduction on acetate film applied to plexiglas
Cube 60 x 60 x 60 cm, plinth 130 x 60 x 60 cm
Dismantled work
Arranged on four sides of a plexiglas cube is a chequerboard of sixty-four images. The chequerboard, which is rotated by 90° each time, is made up of eight photographic elements, that are turned in different directions and repeated, each of them reproducing a detail of the work of another artist exhibited previously at the Galerie Pièce Unique in Paris.
The French title (“unique piece”) gets its name from the gallery for which the work was made, and at the same time it alludes to the fact that it was the only piece on display. Generally speaking, the title implies the paradoxical opposition between the uniqueness of the piece and the kaleidoscopic multiplicity that constitutes it, which changes as the point of view does, and is based on repetition.
