The curvilinear profile of the arcades of the ancient Villa of the Mysteries in Pompeii converses with a series of circular shapes: white rounds, planets, a dartboard, a glass sphere.
The incongruous combinations create a surreal atmosphere that can easily be associated to the rooms of a presumed villa steeped in mysteries.
The work is part of a series of variations with the same title, produced in the same year. The common denominator of these works is the presence of elements that are typical of the artist’s iconographic repertoire (planets, figures, drawings) set against a background of sumptuous interiors.
